Help a Veteran Clockmaker Rebuild from Scratch in Japan

My name is John, and I’m a clock and watch repairman with over 20 years of experience. I used to run a small repair shop in the U.S., but when I moved to Japan, I had to leave all my tools behind. Now, at nearly 60 years old, I’m starting over—completely from scratch.

I believe clock and watch repair is my best path forward. It’s honest work that I love, and it’s how I’ve supported myself and my family for years. But without the proper tools, I can’t do the work I was trained to do.

When I first started in this trade, I had only five tools—gifts from a clockmaker I was fortunate enough to apprentice under. That was the beginning of a career I’ve been proud of ever since. Now, I’m trying to build back up from the ground, one tool at a time.

I served in the U.S. Army Infantry, and that experience taught me how to handle adversity and stay focused in tough situations. I’m not giving up—but I could use a hand to get back on my feet.

Your support will go directly toward purchasing the essential tools I need to service and restore clocks and watches—skills that not only earn income, but help preserve timepieces that mean so much to their owners.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any amount you can give will help me rebuild and move forward with purpose.

With gratitude,
John Haines
